Had fourteen months service with Queensland Imperial Bushmen prior to Anglo-Boer war; served twenty months (1901-1902) with Queensland Imperial Bushmen during Anglo-Boer war; was six months at Army HQ, Pretoria, in 1902; final rank, Lieutenant, Queen's and King's Medal (three clasps); was on Anglo-Germany Boundary Commission in East Africa, 1904-5; served in Zululand Rebellion, 1906. joined 2nd M.R. (Natal Carbineers) in 1914, rank Lieutenant; and saw service in during Rebellion and in GSWA to July 1915; gazetted to 1st Cape Corps, 6/10/1915, rank Captain.
