LG Sup 13 August 1942 - "For conspicuous devotion to duty. On 29 May 1942, 178237 Tpr Weiss, A, was on duty with a Section of Armoured Cars under the command of Lieut. Scholtz, 3rd S.A, Armoured Cars, Reece Btn. The Armoured Car in which Lt. Scholtz and Tpr Weiss were patrolling was engaged by enemy tanks in the vicinity of Pt 209 (Map ref 375432 Sallum - Tobruch 1/250,000) and was put out of action Lieut Scholtz being seriously wounded. Tpr Weiss carried him from the Armoured Car under heavy tank and machine gun fire, to a nearby Wadi, hid him in a cave and rendered first aid to him. The enemy machine gunned and hurled grenades into the Wadi but Tpr Weiss left the cave and proceeded some five miles through the enemy lines to an abandoned Field Dressing Station in order to obtain a stretcher and with the assistance of Cpl Voss, also of 3 S.A. Armoured Cars Recce Bn, carried Lieut Stoltz to the Tobruch Road whence he was evacuated to hospital. By his courage, devotion to duty and total disregard of his own safety Tpr Weiss undoubtedly saved his Section Officer's life."
