Cause of Death:
Killed while flying an aeroplane at night in Kirton-in-Lindsey. He was accompanied by Lieut. Bilton, as observer, and when engine trouble arose he attempted to land, with the result that the machine nose-dived and ran into a flare, setting the aeroplane on fire.

Additional Information
Husband of three months to Miss Emmeline Beilby, daughter of Mr. Frederick Beilby, of Gainsborough. His parents resided in the Orange Free State, South Africa. Son of Maria Elizabeth van Wyk, of Elandshoek, Smithfield, Orange, Free State. He was a fully acquired day and night pilot, and had served one year in the Royal Air Force in England. Previous to coming to this country he served two years in the Army in German East and West Africa. He was an instructor for day flying.
