LG 21 October 1941 - "During the fighting at Dadama on 15 May 1941, L/Cpl Purdon with great determination and personal courage led his section against an enemy battery which was engaging him over open sights. Killing or capturing the bulk of the guns teams he took all the guns of the battery. Carrying on, his section took several machine gun posts at the point of the bayonet. His devotion to duty and gallant leadership did much to break the spirit of the defenders."
