Killed in action, Spitfire LF.IX PT624, left 1800, strafed motor transports at Vigevano, SW Milan, struck a house, crashed. He was seen to hit the roof of a house and somersault into the back garden. Nothing further was seen owing to the dust and he was later reported as missing presumed dead.

Son of George Frederick Laurence Mansell and Doris Violet (nee Bailey) Mansell, of Salisbury, Southern Rhodesia. Born East London. Educated Umtali High School. Attested in November 1939 as ground crew and went with the first contingent to Nairobi. Returned to Rhodesia in March 1943 to train as a pilot and returned to the ME in December 1944.
