Son of Walter Edwin and Louisa Laughton, of Mount Villa, Mount Rd., Rondebosch, Cape Town, South Africa. Served in German South West Africa with 2nd Natal Light Horse. Proceeded to England and joined Royal Berkshire Regt., serving in Egypt, Mesopotamia, and on the North-West Frontier of India (where he was wounded).
