Cause of Death:
Killed in action, at Delville Wood. In the late afternoon Capt John Jackson (3rd Bn C Coy) was inspecting the lines on the southern perimeter held by A and C Companies of the 3rd Bn. A heavy attack was made from their rear, and the positions of the two companies were overrun. The Germans had approached through the devastated wood. Jackson was killed and buried where he had fallen. The remnants of A and C Coys were taken prisoner and escorted northwards through the Wood.
