Served with Special Service Battalion, Natal Carbineers, first as Trooper later as RQMS in GSWA; January to July 1915; enlisted in 1st Cape Corps 20 October 1915, rank RQMS; promoted 2nd Lieutenant 4th December 1915, reverted to RQMS at own request, 14th December 1915; again promoted 2nd Lieutenant 26th June 1916
