Son of Ronald H. and Muriel M. Hoare, of Maseru, Basutoland. An underground surveyor. Attested in the 1st S.A. Irish Regiment on 3 July 1940. Served in East Africa then North Africa. Posted to the 7th Field Regiment S.A.A. (25 pounders) on 25 April 1942. PoW at Tobruk 20 June 1942.
