Died in Aircraft Accident, Hurricane I Z4647. Piloting a Hurricane for a tactical run of battle area, he crashed into a Beaufort parked on landing ground at El Daba, which caused the torpedo which it was loaded to explode, killing him instantly

Educated Paarl Boys High School. Born John Henry Rolt, but it appears as if he changed his name to John Henry Heald after his mother's re-marriage in 1927
