 Killed in action, while leading his Sub-Section forward to build a road, during an attack near Cherisy. He was hit by a splinter from an enemy shell. The splinter pierced his heart and death was instantaneous

Son of John and Annie (nee Gillespie) Elliott, of Talana, Natal, South Africa. Born East Ayrshire, Scotland. A mining engineer. Brother of Mary Jane Duncan, of 188 Bouquet Street, Rosettaville, Johannesburg. His brothers Tom Elliott died in Boer War and his brother Robert John died in service. Commemorated on Dundee & District WWI Memorial & on family plaque in Talana Museum, Dundee & on page 403 of the Canadian First World War Book of Remembrance
