Son of John Frederick and Frances Mary (nee Edge) Milward, of Redditch, Warwickshire, England. Husband of Rosa Marguerite (nee Edge) Milward. Born Southmead Redditch, Ipsley, Warwickshire, England. Served as a Lieutenant with the Durban Light Infantry and the 4th Regiment of Foot, the King's Own Royal Regiment in the ABW 1899-1902. A colonial merchant in Colombo, Ceylon. Enlisted in Rifle Brigade as a Sergeant (S/7494) Planters Contingent, on 12 December 1914; commissioned 7 January 1915; served with the 7th Battalion (The Prince Consort's Own) in France & Belgium; WIA by a shell at Hooge; re-joined his unit end of July; WIA and evacuated to # 10 Casualty Clearing Station, near Poperinghe, Flanders.
