Died in Friendly Fire Incident, a bullet fired at a local who was not co-operating with the PATU patrol went through the local and struck P/O Gillies, in Lupane District (Operation Tangent)

Born Ben Hills, Scotland. Attested 6 February 1978. ***Note from Alistair Johnstone - Was going to swap my trip to Dett with P/O Gillies as a friend of mine was on the patrol he was in. I decided at the last minute I did not want to swap as they were going to Nkai which was a rotten area. ref. "Rhodesian Roll of Honour" by P. Geldenhuys (Roll compiled by Dr. J. R. T. Wood).
