Son of Dering Lee Warner and Ethel Stainbank, of Coedmore, Bellair, Natal, South Africa. Born Bellair, Durban. A farmer at "Codemore", Bellair. Played rugby for Natal 1912-1914. Served as a Sergeant with the 3rd SA Mounted Rifles (NMR) in GSWA 1914 - 1915; at the conclusion he came to England and was gazetted to R.F.A. His brother William Dering also fell, he is commemorated on his brother's headstone. ***Buried 100 yards east of Potyze-Zillebeke Road, Zillebeke but his grave was later lost / destroyed. The altar in All Saints Anglican Church, Bellair was carved by Mary Cox (nee Stainbank) in memory of her two brothers who died in WWI. She also carved the WWI Memorial. Commemorated on the All-Saints Anglican Church, Bellair, Durban; St George?s Church, Beckenham, Greater London & the NMR WWI Memorials. His name is also on his brother's grave in St. John the Baptist Churchyard, Lancashire, England |
