Died in Aircraft Accident, Wellington VIII LB223, crashed between Turnberry and Girvan at night, on coming into land with flaps and undercarriage down. Received Red Signal. Machine had partly completed circuit with flaps and undercarriage still down, when it stalled and crashed

Son of Bertram and Hilda Smallie, of Bulawayo, Southern Rhodesia; husband of Anne Francis Smallie, of Bulawayo. Entered Grey House in April, 1920. Dan left Plumtree in July 1927, and before attesting in 1941 he was employed with the Rhodesian Iron and Steel Corporation at Bulawayo. School Record: Under 12 Athletic Champion, 1922; Inter-School Boxing Team, 1927. He attended the Imperial Jamboree at Wembley in 1924. On Plumtree School Roll of Honour
