Information:
Son of Reverend Canon Charles Dent Bell, Canon of Carlisle and rector of Cheltenham. Husband of Elizabeth Bell-Bathhurst, of 99 Westbourne Terrace, Hyde Park, W. Served six years with the Sherwood Foresters, and after taking part in the 1888 Indian Frontier Expedition, he was in South Africa for three years with the Mashonaland and Matabele Field Forces. In the South African War he was severely wounded at the battle of Colenso. On the outbreak of the present war he came back to England, and after rejoining the Sherwood Foresters, transferred to R.H.A. He saw service in East Africa, and was Commandant at Dar-es-Salaam. In March this year he joined the forces on the Western Front. ref. South African Roll of Honour 1914-1918
