Enlisted 2nd Battalion, Royal Irish Regiment on 24th January 1884. Served Malta (1884 and 1885) and in India (1885 to 1891). Served in South African War and awarded QSA and KSA. Enlisted 19 August 1915. Promoted Corporal 24 August 1915. Demoted to Private 10 June 1916.
