Son of Lt. Col. Charles Victor and Natalie Hosken, of "Vicdene", Town Hill, Pietermaritzburg, Natal, South Africa. Born Boston near Umkomaas, Natal. A civil servant in Bergville. Also served as a Sergeant in German South West Africa with Natal Carbineers. Travelled to England to re-enlist; recommended for a commission by the High Commissioner of the Union; served (with his father) with the 7th Battalion in France. Commemorated on WWI Memorial in Yellowwood Church graveyard, Bulwer, KZN & on Maritzburg College WWI Cenotaph. Also, on St. Saviour's Anglican Cathedral, PMB WWI Memorial scroll in St. Peter's Presbyterian Church, PMB
