LG Sup 18 July 1918 - "For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He showed great ability and initiative in a critical situation, when the flank of the battalion became exposed. Later, he showed splendid coolness and disregard of danger in organising the defence under intense fire, and directed the destruction of several enemy counter-attacks."
