Son of Albert and Margaret McLaren Harvey. Born Partick, Lanarkshire, Scotland. In 1914 he was settled in Southern Rhodesia and enlisted in the Rhodesia Regiment as a Private (1471). Served in German South West Africa. Awarded a commission in the 3rd Battalion of the King?s Own (Royal Lancaster) Regiment on 6th July 1916. ref. South African Roll of Honour 1914-1918.
