1st MC LG Sup 18 July 1917 - "For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He led a successful raiding party on the enemy lines. He brought his party safely back, including two prisoners, but hearing that one man was missing he returned to the enemy lines to search for him but was unsuccessful in finding him." Bar to MC LG Sup 22 June 1918 - "For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. When in charge of a bombing party during a raid, he was the first to discover a party of the enemy advancing towards our front line. He immediately engaged them with the men under his command, his prompt decision being the means of causing confusion on one flank of the enemy. He himself captured two prisoners, and his disregard for personal danger and coolness under trying circumstances contributed largely to the successful issue of the encounter." |
