LG Sup 23 July 1918 pg. 8869 - "For conspicuous gallantry and devotion during a hostile attack, when in charge of the right company. The front line was driven back, and realising the situation, and although under heavy shell and direct machine-gun fire, he held up the enemy until a counter-attack which was formed in the rear had time to materialize. When our counter-attack waves came on, he went forward with them, and drove the enemy back. His splendid coolness and determination were the means of stopping the enemy's advance until the counter-attack was ready, and thus saving the situation."
