Died in Aircraft Accident, Magister I R1844, crashed near Woodborough, 3 miles northwest of Upavon . The crash was attributed to a stable yawing dive to which Magisters were prone when elevators are blanked by rudder when recovering from a stall or spin

Son of Jacobus Adriaan Johannes Baard and of Huibrecht Gertruida Christina Baard (nee Dippenaar), of Cape Town, South Africa. Born Moorreesburg. Educated Moorreesburg High School; Cadet Draft 1936-7. Jacobus Adriaan Johannes Baard became an apprentice with the Runciman Shipping Company after completing his course on General Botha, obtaining his Second Mate's certificate in 1941. He then joined the RAF and received his training in the USA, Canada and England, obtaining his wings in September 1943
