Son of Frank Ernest and Ethel S. Fynn, of Umtali, Southern Rhodesia. Born Cape Town. Entered Grey House in 1928. After matriculating in 1933 he joined the Native Department. He went overseas for training and attested in the R.A.F. on July 5th, 1940. School Record: House Prefect, 1931-32; School Prefect, 1932-33; Corporal in the Cadets; Rugger 1st XV, 1933; Cricket XI, 1932-33 (Colours); School Tennis VI, 1933. On Plumtree School Roll of Honour. (Also known by the nickname "CHUM").
