Son of Patrick and Ellen Flanigan, of Duivelskloof, Northern Transvaal. Husband of Mary E. Flanigan, of 6 Stranmillis Road, Belfast. Born Belfast. Edmund Hughes Flanigan was a Doctor of Medicine, he qualified MB (Batchelor of Medicine), BCh (Batchelor of surgery) and BAO (Batchelor of Obstetrics) at the Royal University of Ireland in 1908 he resided at 48 Great Victoria Street, Belfast. Gave up a lucrative medical practice in Rhodesia, South Africa, and joined the Army in 1915. Medal Index Card states he served in France from 10 January 1916. His two brothers also died in service
