Son of Andrew A. de Greef, and of Anna E. de Greef, of Melville, Johannesburg, Transvaal, South Africa; husband of M. de Greef. In the book "A Gathering of Eagles" there is a note on the bottom of pg. 164. "No 41 Sqd found the wreckage of Lt. G. J. de Greef's Hartbees at Bardera with a note pinned to it saying that he would attempt to walk back to our lines. De Greef had been reported missing on 19th August 1940 and presumed dead on 15.5.41"
