Son of Richard Allen Cox and Florence Annie Hickey Cox, of Salisbury, Southern Rhodesia. Entered Gaul House in January 1937. After passing the Cambridge School Certificate examination in December 1940, he left Plumtree and joined the Native Department for a short while before attesting in the R.A.F. On Plumtree School Roll of Honour
