Son of Samuel and Elizabeth Wray (nee Cook); husband of Ellen Wray, of "Rayville," Undercliffe Rd., Undercliffe, New South Wales. Born Navan, County Meath, Ireland in March 1883; worked in Durban, South Africa; served with the 2nd Battalion, Durban Light Infantry; served with the Western Province Mounted Rifles in the ABW 1899-1902. Emigrated to Australia; employed by the NSW Railways; enlisted 1 May 1916; embarked for Europe 9 September1916; served as a signaller with the 18th Battalion in France & Belgium.
