Son of Charles George and Marian Letitia Bateman, of Turnes Hotel, Durban. Born Park Rynie, Natal. A scholar. Educated Durban High School. Travelled to England to enlist in the RFC; enrolled School of Military Aviation, Oxford 12 April 1917. Commemorated on Durban High School WW1 War Memorial
