Son of Albert Edward and Lillian Gertrude Leggo. Born Cape Town. Raised in Portuguese East Africa where his father was employed on the Beira Mashonaland Railway. As a boy, Douglas became enthralled with Malta when he read a book about the Great Siege. Little did he know that he would, one day, end up fighting during Malta's Second Siege. Leggo volunteered for the RAF and got his wings at Cranborne, Rhodesia. |
