Son of Bertram Edward and Blanche Muriel Claydon-Fink, of Sea Point, Cape Town, South Africa. b. Green Point, Cape Town, 22 January 1927; ed. Christian Brothers College, Green Point; General Botha Cadet Draft 1942/43. On completion of his course in General Botha, Royston Arthur Claydon-Fink joined the Anglo-Saxon Petroleum Co. as an apprentice, serving in the MV Taron when she visited France, Italy and USA. In February 1945, after spending his leave in England, he was transferred to their Goldshell, in which he was serving when the tanker struck a mine off Antwerp and was blown up. |
