Son of James Battersby Campion, of 70 Noord Street, Johannesburg. Served with the Donkey transport section of the South African Service Corps in German South-West Africa, he embarked with the 1st South African Brigade (4th Regiment S.A.I.) for the shores of France in December, 1915.
