Killed in action, during first day of the Battle of Arras. The 3rd S.A.I. was on the right of the South African Infantry Brigade in the attack of Black Line and Blue Line (North of St Laurent-Blangy). The 3rd S.A.I. sustained 53 killed and 226 wounded

Son of Charles James and Mary Wrightson, of Heaton Norris, Stockport, England. Born in London. Occupation Auditor and accountant. Originally he served 1st SAI DLI "B" Coy from 15.10.14 and served until Demobilized 18.7.1915 he is entitled to a 1914/15 star for this service. He later served 3rd SAI enlisting on 13.8.15 regimental number 127, He was wounded in action at Delville Wood on 16-July-1916, Gun shot wound back and was invalided to UK, rejoined unit on 28-September-1916
