LG Sup 24 September 1942 pg. 4158 - "For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On night 26/27 July when engaged on clearing a gap through the enemy minefield South of El Alamein he showed complete disregard for his own safety and set a magnificent example to the rest of the Sappers engaged on this this hazardous operation. He repeatedly returned to continue the task of searching for mines in the enemy minefield when the rest of the party had been driven back and pinned down by intense enemy fire. In addition, at great personal risk this NCO rendered valuable assistance in evacuating casualties in the face of heavy fire and his demeanor throughout was a source of inspiration to all."
Son of Alexander M. and Florence Aitcheson, of Cape Town, South Africa.
