Son of Frederick W. and Lilian M. Sutton, of Port Alfred, Cape Province, South Africa. Born in Pretoria on the 4th December, 1923. The son of Frederick William and Lilian Mary Sutton. Educated at Port Alfred Secondary School. After Bothie, apprenticed to Andrew Weir & Co., but was transferred to the SAR & H in 1942 (Merchant Navy) as a Seaman Gunner.
