LG Sup 25 August 1916 pg. 8456 - "For conspicuous gallantry on all occasions during operations, notably when carrying out dangerous reconnaissances. On one occasion, when his dug-out was blown in by a shell which killed some men and wounded others, although much shaken himself he bore the whole weight of the roof on his shoulders for some time and prevented it from falling in on the wounded."
