Son of Mrs. Margaret Marquard, of 137, Zastron St., Bloemfontein, South Africa, and the late Rev. J. J. T. Marquard. Graduate student at Teachers College, 1914-1915. John Marquard obtained his B.A. at Grey University, Bloemfontein, South Africa, in 1907 and was afterwards a master in the Government School at Kromstad, South Africa. He went to England in the summer of 1915 to enter the Officers Training Corps and was commissioned First Lieutenant, 13th Royal Fusiliers of the British Expeditionary Force. At first he served as Transportation Officer but was later transferred to the line. On Columbia University Roll of Honour
