Cause of Death:
Killed in action, Stirling LJ540, airborne from Wigsley for a long night navigation and bombing exercise at the Bassingham ranges. Whilst in the range area, shot down at 0125 by Me410 intruder thought to be from 2/KG51. Aircraft crashed at Hilltop Farm, Caythorpe. The farmer, Mr Theaker, erected a memorial at the crash site.

Son of James and Ethel Olive MacFarlane, of Chisamba, Northern Rhodesia. Entered Milner House in January 1937. Before leaving in December 1940, he passed his Cambridge School Certificate examination, obtaining six credits. From Plumtree he went to Wits University. Later he joined the R.A.F. and received his preliminary training in Southern Rhodesia, then proceeded overseas in July 1943. On Plumtree School Roll of Honour
