LG Sup 18 February 1943 pg. 866 - "For continuously gallant services in action in Libya and Egypt during period 1 May to 31 October 1942. This NCO a section leader now acting Platoon Sergeant has fought in every action with his platoon since mobilization, and has displayed outstanding courage, coolness and resource. On two occasions prior to the period under review his personal example had a direct bearing on the success on his platoon's operations. Since then his conduct has been of the same high order. On night 26/27 July 1942, at a dangerous phase of an attack on enemy positions at El Alamein, his leadership was outstanding. Subsequently his platoon was relieved and withdrawn into reserve, but he, on his own initiative, raised a working party and went again to assist Engineers who under fire were clearing a gap through the enemy minefield. His devotion to duty and fighting spirit have had a profound and inspiring effect on his own men." |
