Killed in action. Pilot of Sopwith 1 1/2 Strutter A386 of No 70 Sqn RFC, with 2Lt Robert Claude Oakes (formerly Royal Field Artillery) as observer. Ltn Kurt Wintgens of KEK Vaux claimed a victory over Strutter '9653' near Arras; it was the 9th of his eventual 19 victories before his death in action on 25 September 1916.
