Son of the late Walter and Isabella J. Gray, of Helmsley, Highflats, Natal; husband of the late Irene Gray. Was survived by his only child, Jocelyn William Gladstone Gray. Also served in the South African Campaign (Anglo-Boer War) (Siege of Ladysmith), 1906 Natal Rebellion, German South West Africa, a Lieutenant with the 3rd Natal Mounted Rifles. Educated at Hilton College. ***Date of death might be 15-July-1916, Killed in action on the 15th July 1916 in Delville Wood. "Captain Gray of C Coy was killed, he was very much loved by his men, a great loss" (D. Brice-Bruce, quoted in Delville Wood of I. Uys).
