Whilst consolidating the position he exposed himself fearlessly, and moved about the line among his men throughout a heavy barrage. By skilful handling of his rifle, and Lewis gun fire he broke up a party of the enemy assembling for a counter-attack. He showed magnificent courage and skill throughout."
