Son of Dennis and Daphne (nee Geddie) Woods. Born Cape Town. Had survived being grabbed by a crocodile while he and the rest of his patrol were crossing a river (a tug-of-war ensued between the men and the croc with Mike in the middle). He left a young wife and six-year-old daughter in Salisbury (Harare) and relatives grieving in Zimbabwe and South Africa. His mother was living in Cape Town at the time. ref.
