Died in Animal Attack, attacked by a lion at Bumi, Kariba, whilst camped on the shores of Lake Kariba. A lioness appeared out of the darkness and attacked, biting him in the neck. The lioness disappeared into the dark but, before the men could grab their weapons, the lioness returned for another attack, before retreating again into the night. Died later from his injuries but, his comrades did manage to get him to a doctor before he died |

His BCR citation states that it was for gallantry and leadership in action. Despite a faulty radio in a contact, he still managed to direct his troops, accounting for 6 CTs himself. He showed complete disregard for his own safety under conditions of extreme danger |
