Cause of Death:
Killed in action, died in Salisbury Hospital from wounds received in a landmine explosion near Whistlefield Farm, Centenary, Op Hurricane. As a result of an attack by ZANLA CTs on 21 December on Altena Farm in the Centenary area, elements of the SAS and Support Group RLI were deployed to the Centenary police station. The following night, a nearby homestead on Whistlefield Farm was also attacked by CTs, precipitating a large combined SAS/RLI and BSAP search the following morning for the CTs. Responding to a sighting of spoor to the west of Whistlefield Farm, Lt Ian Buttenshaw, sitting on the bonnet of an RLI International truck, directed the vehicle down a track. As they turned off the main road, the right rear wheel detonated a landmine, seriously injuring Cpl Norman Moore and Tpr Pete Botha. Tpr Botha lost both his legs
