Cause of Death:
Killed in action, at Delville Wood. The German 26th (Magdeburg) Regt attacked Longueval and in hand-to-hand fighting took the village again. At the same time the 153rd (Altenburg) Regt, with eight assault companies under Capt Bieler, attacked the northern perimeter.

Son of the late Major T. Cleary (2nd Bn. Royal Irish Rifles) and Mrs. Cleary. Served in the South African Campaign. Served in the Boer War as a gunner in the RFA, then transferred to the SAC. Trooper Cleary remained in South Africa after the war and joined the Orange River Colony Police. He was stationed at Bloemfontein. Former South African Policeman
