Cause of Death:
Died in Training Accident, Sgt. David Johannes Kruger was in a training session at the South African Police training establishment, located in Verdrag near Thabazimbi when the accident occurred. The group of seven instructors was in an office busy preparing for a lecture on hand grenades and was looking at a Yugoslavian grenade. One of the Instructors accidentally activated the grenade without knowing it. Sgt. David Kruger took the hand grenade from the instructor to disperse off it, but due to circumstances, space and time Sgt. David Kruger decided go into a corner, use his own body as cover against the blast and was killed instantly, saving the lives of Const CF Kotze (Soweto), Sgt. Bosch (Port Elizabeth), L/Sgt. E Mcauly (Newcastle), L/Sgt. DJ Schutte (Newcastle) and several other police officers around the office at the time of the blast
