Son of Robert S. and Annie Carbutt, of Shrewsbury; husband of Constance Amella Annie Carbutt, of Haughton Roden, Wellington, Salop. Born Frankwell, Shrewsbury. Served in Boer War with 88th Imperial Yeomanry. Served in Zulu Rebellion (1906). Stayed in South Africa and worked as an amalgamator gold miner. His two brothers Jack Carbutt 19 December 1914 and T A Carbutt 28 November 1918 also died in service ***CWGC has 8th Bty.
