Cause of Death:
 Died in Aircraft Accident, Aloutte III #616, crashed near Port Elizabeth. Maj. Ken Newman (50) made an emergency radio call before his Allouette III crashed in dense bushes in Sea View, Port Elizabeth. Two passengers, Flt.-Sgt. Mike Bottom (37), flight engineers, and Sgt. Gert Etsebeth (22), a student flight engineer, were seriously injured. All were from AFB Port Elizabeth. The Alouette III was on loan from 22 Squadron. Maj. Newman had played an important role in rescue operations in the Eastern Cape.
