Cause of Death: |
Killed in action, in a contact with the enemy. He was part of a patrol sent out to clear a road which ran parallel to the Nhia River in Angola. Sent North over the Nhia river to scout the area around small Kraaltjie where Cubans and MPLA had dug in. Late in the afternoon they were in contact with two Cubans and was killed in this incident. D Marais was critically wounded. Both Cubans were killed in the incident. This was during the Battle at Bridge 14. On the 11 December to rescue the other men in the section, sadly one man that they carried back D Marais who died later that night in Cela hospital. |
